The Department of Occupational Therapy in the School of Health Professions of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) seeks a non- tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor, located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.  The department offers two entry-level degree programs, a master, and a doctorate in occupational therapy. Candidates should demonstrate strong teaching and clinical backgrounds. This position is for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor, 9-month contract position.


  • Teach assigned coursework across the broad spectrum of occupational therapy education.
  • Faculty responsibilities include the development and revision of course syllabi, and the development and delivery of course lectures, lab activities, and assessments.
  • Participate in department, school, and campus wide committees.
  • The department values individuals who can collaborate effectively on intra and inter-disciplinary teams.
  • Participate in periodic departmental program review for accreditation, admissions, student mentoring, and advisement.
  • Scholarly activities and pursuits are highly valued by the department and the school and will be encouraged and supported as a component of the growth and development of the faculty member.
  • Contribute to the department and school though various participatory activities, while supporting a growth mindset and positive environment for students and colleagues.


  • Terminal academic degree preferred. Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitative Sciences, or a related field.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in the New York State and NBCOT certification.
  • A minimum of five years of professional practice experience is required.
  • Experience supervising Level I and Level II occupational therapy students.
  • A current and valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
  • Academic teaching experience (live face-to-face and online).
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are needed for working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer technology (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems preferred
