Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching, promoting success and shows the ability to positively influence, mentor and work with diverse individuals. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) requirements and College/Union requirements for the effective management of the Practical Nursing program.  Students and Faculty have started the semester in a state-of-the-art Center for Health Sciences, Human Services & Early Childhood Education Campus in Framingham and we are seeking professionals who enjoy what they do and want to pass that nursing expertise and passion on in supportive and positive ways.

Primary academic responsibilities include participation in evening classroom instruction and the development of and evaluation of courses across the Practical Nursing curricula; supervision of students in the clinical, laboratory and simulation settings; and academic advising. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare syllabi and course materials for evening practical nursing classes, including writing, vetting, evaluating, and participating in item analysis;
  • Assign, supervise, and evaluate students in the clinical setting (evenings and weekends). Plan clinical experiences for, provide supervision of and appropriately evaluate and document student delivery of safe nursing care to an individual or group of individuals;
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of a written systematic plan of evaluation of all components of the nursing program, including the assessment of graduate student learning outcomes and nursing competencies;
  • Actively participate in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes (student achievement) in accordance with MA BORN and ACEN standards;
  • Collaborate with faculty to collect, analyze, and utilize appropriate data to evaluate and revise course and program student learning outcomes;
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop/revise curricula based upon evidence (curriculum plan);
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and revise program policies that are consistent with parent institution with differences justified based on program goals;
  • Collaborate with faculty to determine suitable and comprehensive instructional material, textbooks, clinical sites, library acquisitions and other learning resources;
  • Meet with and work collegially with Day Practical Nursing Option faculty to provide a unified program across day and evening option;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technological skills in classroom and clinical settings (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, online learning platform/Blackboard, electronic health records) and ability to use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence and expertise in classroom/clinical/simulation teaching and the discipline of nursing;
  • Practice cultural competence;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned;
  • Adhere to Massachusetts Community College Contract including but not limited to:

              -Academic advisor to students;

              -Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;

              -Serve on College committees (college governance) as elected or appointed;

              -Attend Division, Department, and Committee meetings;

              -Serve on Nursing Program committees.

Required Qualifications:

  • Hold a current unencumbered Massachusetts RN License, or able to obtain and maintain prior to start of program;
  • Possess an earned master’s degree in nursing (MSN);
  • Possess a minimum of three years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years;
  • Previous academic teaching experience in the college setting and/or clinical teaching experience;
  • Maintain expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities;
  • Maintain current health and immunizations for clinical clearance;
  • Meet the same Technical Standards as students in the Nursing Program;
  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR level appropriate to teaching responsibilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Ability to use a personal computer and associated peripherals and current version of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, Internet, and alternative delivery systems (e.g., internet and interactive video) at a proficient level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Master of Science in Nursing- Nurse Educator;
  • Speaks and communicates in more than one language effectively;
  • Experience with nursing program accreditation;
  • Experience working with the State Board of Nursing;
  • Experience with and demonstrated commitment to cross-disciplinary education;
  • Previous academic teaching experience in the college setting and/or clinical teaching experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $68,000 – $70,000, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
